From the August 2004 MSTA Newsletter The Society for College Science Teachers (SCST) is a national organization whose purpose is to provide a forum for interdisciplinary interaction among teachers of science at any and all post-secondary institutions of education. Over 90% of the membership have their doctorates in the natural sciences with a focus on teaching general education science rather than the more traditional path emphasizing research and teaching science majors. The SCST affiliated with the NSTA in 1981 because we believe ourselves to be the logical extension of the K-12 effort. With chapters in all states, the SCST holds its national and regional meetings in conjunction with those of the NSTA, and its state meetings are held in conjunction with state science teacher associations afo liated with the NSTA. The Michigan chapter (MI-SCST) became affiliated with the MSTA in 1991 and has held its annual meeting in conjunction with that of the MSTA since 1992. The main purpose of the MI-SCST is to provide a forum within which K-16 science teachers can meet to discuss issues relating to teaching about science. |
