Mission, Values, & Vision

Mission Statement:

The MSTA mission is to stimulate, support, and provide leadership for the improvement of science education throughout Michigan.

Our Values

To accomplish our mission, MSTA has a set of beliefs that are ingrained in the way we think and act as a professional organization. These values guide our choices as we set our objectives, formulate our strategies, choose our actions, and evaluate our results.

People
We will advocate at local, state, and national levels for science teachers to have an active role in determining the course of science education. We believe success is based on our abilities to hear, respect, and respond to the needs of the MSTA membership.

Leadership
We believe the responsibility of the MSTA board is to actively promote and carry out the MSTA mission and vision.

Integrity
We believe that as educators, our actions and decisions must reflect the highest ethical and professional standards.

Excellence
We are committed to sharing and promoting research based best practices in science education in order to provide Michigan students with skills that promote science literacy.

Diversity
We are committed to actively promoting and sustaining a diverse community of learners, educators, and practitioners who reflect the rich intellectual legacies that exist within the body of scientific knowledge.

Growth
We promote professional growth and continuous learning opportunities for our membership.

Our Vision

MSTA is the foremost leadership and advocacy group for science education in Michigan. MSTA will have partnerships with policymakers in business, industry, government, and the education community. These collaborations will provide Michigan teachers, students and parents with resources to promote thinking and reasoning skills in science. Together, we will enable Michigan citizens to make informed decisions in a rapidly changing scientific and technological world.
